Valheim After 1.0 — Iron Gate Roadmap & What Comes Next

What Iron Gate has said about Valheim after 1.0: the Deep North is the final biome, post-launch updates stay minor (fixes, balance, quality-of-life), and the patch cadence so far. No new biome or DLC has been announced.

By Valheim Field Guide Editorial Team

1.0 was the full game, not a checkpoint

Valheim left early access on 9 September 2026 with the 1.0 release. In the developer communications around launch, Iron Gate framed 1.0 as the complete game: the Deep North closes the biome progression that started in the Meadows, and the studio described the final biome as the planned end of the content line. There is no announced follow-up biome, expansion, or paid DLC.

That does not mean development stops. What Iron Gate has said about the period after 1.0 is consistent and narrow: minor updates — bug fixes, balance passes, and quality-of-life — rather than another major content drop. We quote the studio’s framing rather than predict features, because nothing beyond that has been committed.

What shipped in the weeks after launch

The post-1.0 cadence is the best evidence of Iron Gate’s “minor updates” promise. Every version below is a real public release (the sequence skips 1.0.11, 1.0.13, 1.0.18 and 1.0.19 — those numbers were internal builds that never shipped):

  • 1.0.10 & 1.0.12 — week-one hotfixes (item-stand durability, server allow-lists)
  • 1.0.14 — terrain-modification and multiplayer-portal fixes
  • 1.0.15 — terrain-duplication fix
  • 1.0.16 — Deep North terrain and achievement repairs
  • 1.0.17 — world-save safety and item-variant fixes
  • 1.0.20 — trophy drop-rate fix, cheated-item-flag reset, dedicated-server CPU fix

The full, always-current list lives on the patch notes index. The pattern — small, frequent, stability-first — is exactly what “minor updates” looks like in practice.

What 1.0 already delivered

Before looking forward, it is worth being clear about what the 1.0 launch itself added, because that is the new baseline everything else builds on:

  • The Deep North — the eighth and final biome, with its own enemies, materials and the closing boss, Kall Fimbulbringer.
  • Crossplay — PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), Xbox, PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 share one player pool, up to 10 players.
  • Console launches — PS5 and Switch 2 shipped the same day as 1.0.
  • Achievements — the first achievement system in the game’s history.

See the 1.0 launch article for the day-one summary, or the Deep North guide for what the biome contains.

What to expect next — and what not to assume

Based on Iron Gate’s stated direction, the reasonable expectations are:

  • More patches, same shape. Fixes, balance and QoL, landing every few weeks. The 1.0.10 → 1.0.20 run is the template.
  • Console parity work. Crossplay and the new console ports are the youngest parts of the game, so version-lag and edge-case fixes (save transfer, platform-specific settings) are the most likely recurring topics.
  • Balance passes on Deep North gear. As players mass-test the gold-tier weapons, Frost Foundry crafting and the new foods, expect number tweaks rather than new systems.

What we will not assume: a new biome, a story expansion, or a paid DLC. Iron Gate has not announced any of these, and the Deep North was explicitly described as the final planned biome. If that changes, the patch notes index is where it will show up first.

Honesty note: this page describes what the studio has communicated, not a feature wishlist. Anything beyond “minor updates” is unannounced. When Iron Gate publishes a concrete roadmap, we will update this page to match it rather than speculate.

For mod users

The 1.0 update was large (a Unity engine upgrade, a new biome, a new networking layer), so the mod ecosystem took a hit at launch and recovered at different speeds. If you run mods, check the post-1.0 mod status before committing a save to a specific mod — and keep crossplay in mind, because networking-touching mods are the ones most likely to break a shared world.

FAQ

Will Valheim get more updates after 1.0?

Yes, but Iron Gate has described them as minor — fixes, balance and quality-of-life — rather than another major content drop. The 1.0.10 through 1.0.20 patches are the working example of that cadence.

Is there a new biome or DLC coming after the Deep North?

Nothing has been announced. Iron Gate described the Deep North as the final planned biome, and there is no confirmed expansion or paid DLC. We will update this page if that changes.

What should I watch for in future patches?

Console-parity fixes (crossplay edge cases, platform-specific settings), balance passes on Deep North gear and foods, and the usual stability fixes. Watch the patch notes index for the live list.

Is now a good time to start a new world?

For most players, yes. 1.0 is stable, crossplay is live across all platforms, and the Deep North is complete. If you have a pre-1.0 world you care about, read new save vs old world first — old saves keep working, but the new biome only exists in worlds generated or visited after 1.0.
