Valheim Crafting Calculator — Gear, Weapons & Armor Materials

Add weapons, armor, tools and trinkets to a list and get the exact materials, the stations and station levels they need. Recipes come from the site's verified Valheim 1.0 item database; alloys and ammo can be broken down into raw inputs.

Your crafting list

Costs are the base crafting materials recorded in the item database for a single item.

Materials you need

Add an item to see the materials it takes and the station it needs.

How this is calculated

  • Every figure is the sum of the crafting materials recorded in this site's item database — 289 craftable weapons, armor, tools and trinkets, verified for Valheim 1.0. Nothing is estimated from item tier or average cost, and each material in the result links to its own page.
  • Only the base recipe is counted. The upgrade levels a station unlocks are not included, because the database records them as a separate mechanic.
  • Station upgrade idols (the Wooden Protection Idol and its kin) appear in the game's recipe window, so 285 recipes list one. They are a Forge / Workbench levelling requirement rather than something you gather, so they are listed in their own block and left out of the material totals. Adding them to the shopping list would send you looking for an item you cannot pick up. What each station needs to reach that level is on the workstations guide.
  • Items that are bought rather than crafted, where the database records a repair fee instead of a recipe (Hildir's cosmetic sets), are not offered here.
  • "Break craftable materials into their own inputs" replaces an ingredient that can itself be crafted with what it costs — Bronze becomes 2 Copper + 1 Tin, an Ironhead Arrow becomes 8 Wood + 1 Iron + 2 Feathers. 32 ingredients can be broken down, the recipe chain is at most two levels deep, and there are no loops, so the conversion is exact. Ingots and ores are smelted rather than crafted, so they are left as they are.
  • Round up and carry spares: a repair costs materials too, and a failed experiment costs all of them. For the structure side of a build, see the building material calculator.

Crafting costs: common questions

How much iron do I need for a full set of Valheim armor?

Add each piece to the list and the planner totals them — it does not guess from a tier average. For reference, Iron Scale Mail alone is 20 iron and 2 deer hide, so a set plus a weapon adds up fast. Every material row is a link to that item's database page, where its own recipe and drop sources are listed.

Which crafting station and level does an item need?

The planner lists every station your list requires with the highest level needed (Forge Lv 2, Black Forge Lv 4, Galdr Table Lv 3 …). The level comes from the same recipe data, and is only shown when the data states one — it never invents "Lv 1".

What are the Wooden Protection Idols the recipes mention?

They are the Forge and Workbench upgrade idols — Wooden and Bronze Protection/Battle Idols up through Iron, Silver, Black Metal, Black Marble, Flametal and Bloodgold. The game shows them inside the recipe window, and 285 recipes in our data list one, but they are a station-levelling requirement rather than something you gather. This planner lists them in their own block and keeps them out of the material totals.

Does it break bronze, nails and arrows down into raw materials?

Yes — turn on "Break craftable materials into their own inputs" and anything that is itself crafted is replaced by what it costs: Bronze becomes 2 Copper + 1 Tin, an Ironhead Arrow becomes 8 Wood + 1 Iron + 2 Feathers. Ingots and ores are smelted rather than crafted, so they stay as they are — the chain stops at the ingot rather than inventing a smelting step the game does in a Smelter.

Can I save or share a list?

The URL always reflects your list (for example /gear/calculator/?items=swordiron:2,armorironchest:1), so copying the address bar or using "Copy shareable link" reproduces it exactly. Nothing is stored on a server and no account is needed.
