Comfort
Valheim Comfort — Every Comfort Item, Group and Value
Every comfort item in Valheim 1.0 with its group and value, why only the best piece per group counts, and a calculator that adds up the furniture you actually own.
Comfort decides how long your Rested buff lasts. It is not a sum of everything you own: furniture is sorted into groups, and only the best piece in each group counts. This page lists every piece that provides comfort, the group it belongs to, and what it is worth.
What furniture alone adds up to
20 comfort from furniture
That is the best piece of each of the 11 groups below added together — the ceiling of what furniture can contribute. The game also grants a shelter bonus for sitting by a lit fire under a roof; that is not a placeable piece, so it is not in this table and not in this number.
How comfort actually works
- Every comfort piece belongs to a group. Only your best piece in each group counts — a second throne is decoration, not comfort.
- A piece only counts within ten metres of where you sit or lie down. The ten metres is a ball, not a flat circle, so a rug in a shallow pit or a lantern on the floor above still counts.
- A fire only counts while it is burning, and the hot tub only counts while it is heated. When either goes cold, its comfort silently stops counting.
- Sit still for around twenty seconds before the buff lands.
- Rested lasts your comfort plus seven minutes.
Comfort calculator
Tick the furniture you have built. The total applies the group rule for you — adding a second piece from a group you already cover changes nothing.

Comfort groups
Pick one piece from each group — the highest one you can build. Mixing groups is how the number grows; stacking within a group does nothing.

These belong to no group, so each one adds its value on top of everything above. Both are tied to in-game events.
Comfort values and groups are transcribed from the source listed on each piece; a piece without a stated comfort is absent from this page rather than given a guessed one.

Valheim comfort — frequently asked questions
- What is the maximum comfort in Valheim?
- The number above is the ceiling of what furniture contributes — the best piece of every group added together. The game also grants a shelter bonus for sitting by a lit fire under a roof, which is not a buildable piece and is therefore not part of this table. Two seasonal pieces, the Maypole and the Yule Tree, sit outside every group and stack on top of both.
- Does building two thrones give more comfort?
- No. Every throne shares the Chair group, and only the best piece in a group counts. A second throne is worth exactly as much comfort as no second throne.
- How close does the furniture have to be?
- Within ten metres of the spot where you sit or lie down, measured in any direction — up and down included. Sit still for about twenty seconds to pick the buff up.
- Why did my comfort drop on its own?
- Almost always the fire burned out or the hot tub cooled down. Both stop counting the moment they go cold. Walking out of the ten-metre circle around your furniture does the same thing.
- Can I hide comfort items under the floor?
- Yes. The range is a ten-metre ball around you rather than a flat circle, so a rug in a shallow pit or a lantern on the floor above still counts. Plenty of players bury the ugly pieces this way.
