0 · The Elder
The Elder bursting out of the summoning stone in a shower of light as a solo player watches from the stones
Solo summon: three seeds, one stone, and The Elder wakes with nobody else inside his aggro radius — the lowest effective health he will ever have, all of it aimed at you.

Verified (1.0): The Elder takes double damage from fire and is immune to poison, spirit and stagger. Solo scaling is the minimum — no other players in the 100m radius at first hit, so his effective health is as low as it gets.

The solo loop

The whole fight is a three-beat rhythm you repeat until he dies:

  1. Strafe behind a standing stone so his root slam and brambles miss.
  2. Block the slam with the wood shield (free, no stamina) or sidestep out of the reach.
  3. Reposition and loose a volley of fire arrows before he commits again.

A full quiver of fire arrows is the solo opener — every volley loosed from range is damage you never have to trade up close.

The only thing that breaks the rhythm is an Ancient Sapling. The instant he summons one, you drop the boss and kill the add — that is the single most important reflex in the solo fight.

The sapling rule on camera: the moment he roots and calls adds, the boss stops being your target — solo, nobody clears them for you.

Why this differs from a group fight

In a group, one player tanks and holds aggro while others clear adds. Solo, you are the tank, the DPS and the add-clear at once. That is why:

  • The wood shield is non-negotiable — nobody else is blocking for you.
  • Saplings become the real boss — with no teammate clearing them, they stack on you while you dodge.
  • Reset is your friend — walk far enough to despawn him, resupply arrows and food, and return. Do not grind a fight you are losing.

Frequently asked questions

What is the safest solo loadout for The Elder?
A wood shield plus a fire bow with a full quiver of fire arrows. Fire deals double damage, the wood shield blocks his slow, telegraphed attacks for free, and the bow keeps you out of the root slam's reach. A bronze mace is a fine fallback if you are melee-only, but ranged is safer solo.
Why do players keep dying to The Elder solo?
Almost always the Ancient Saplings. While the player is focused on dodging a root slam or bramble lash, the summoned saplings close in and drain health. Solo there is nobody to clear the adds for you — treat every sapling as the top priority and kill it the moment it appears.
Can I beat The Elder with flint (Meadows-tier) gear?
Yes, but it is a long, punishing fight. Bronze gear is a soft requirement: with flint and leather you are outlasting his fire arrows and taking real damage from every hit. If you have the time to farm the Black Forest for bronze and iron, do it before summoning — it turns a 20-minute grind into a 5-minute fight.
How long does The Elder take solo?
With a wood shield, a full fire-arrow quiver and good sapling management, a typical solo kill is around 5–10 minutes. The fight is short on paper but feels long because his root slams and brambles force constant repositioning and you are trading fire-arrow volleys against his double fire damage.
